IMMENSE DISTANCE
Richard J Roberts [a.k.a. Zero Ohms]
with Brannan Lane
Space for Music
2003
Immense Distance takes us on a journey to the far reaches of space through the use of very Earth-bound instruments.
Haunting and ethereal, this music is best experienced in a dark room or, perhaps, with earphones, lying on the grass and gazing up to the stars in order to make it a true cosmic voyage.
Only hints of melodies pierce On Currents of Sound, while Into the Nth is reminiscent of Gyorgi Ligeti's Atmosphères journey through the Stargate in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Yet Ohms' and Lane's presentation is more dramatic and foreboding in its feel, with touches of hope endeavoring to push through to our senses. Rather than listen to it, experience Immense Distance.
